Remate - the material remote

Click a face. Grade the material. Live in the render — Corona & V-Ray.Remate is a little remote for the look of your materials. Pick face is the move that changes everything: click any face in the viewport — a car body, one cushion, a single window frame — and Remate instantly grabs the exact sub-material behind it and takes control. No Slate, no hunting through a 25-slot Multi/Sub. Click, drag, done.Push colour, glossiness, bump or displacement from one panel — live under interactive rendering. Every material moves from its own value, and one click restores everything to the exact original, down to the pixel. Experiment on a client-approved scene without fear. Pick face — the killer move. Multi/sub, grouped objects, even while the interactive render runs. Relative, per material. A selection of forty keeps its variety instead of collapsing to one flat look. Live in the render. Corona and V-Ray interactive rendering, eyes never leaving the VFB. Pixel-exact Reset. Originals snapshotted on take control, restored byte-for-byte. Master (relative) mode. Drive a whole Multi/Sub as one while every picked face keeps its own offset. Recolor. Turn a plain white or grey diffuse into any colour — solid shaders and textured maps alike. Hue-safe Brightness. Lift or drop value without dragging the colour with it. Full Corona & V-Ray parity — CoronaPhysicalMtl, CoronaLegacyMtl / CoronaMtl, VRayMtl, VRayCarPaintMtl. Auto-detects the engine from your selection.Requirements: 3ds Max 2021 to 2027 with Corona (9+) or V-Ray (6+), Windows. Drag-and-drop install (.mzp). Foliage Tint Master owners get a free 14-day trial, bundled with the FTM update.Licences (one-time, never a subscription): Freelance — 24 EUR, 1 seat, for one artist. Studio — 79 EUR, 5 seats for the whole team. Lifetime, free updates on v1.Version historyLatest - v1.3.0Type an exact value into any read-out. Click it, type, press Enter. Typing goes past the end of the track, which extends to accept the value, so no channel is capped by the width of its slider. On an absolute channel you type the real value: 1.52 for glass, 0.85 for a glossiness. Every read-out is editable, Glossiness and Reflection included, and so is every channel in MORE PARAMETERS.Wider colour sliders. Contrast to 5, gamma to 16, brightness to +8 EV, saturation to x4, temperature to 20500 K. The low end is unchanged, where -100 is a real floor.Heavy materials at last. On a multi/sub-object material carrying 292 leaves, taking control went from 22.8 s to 0.44, a slider move from 3.2 s to 0.85, and selecting the object from 3.0 s to 0.2. The interactive render is no longer flooded while you drag, and picking a face on a large scene went from 4.9 s to 0.18.Pick face behaves. It no longer selects the object you clicked, it works on groups and on objects painted with a single material ID, and it can no longer grab an object you cannot see.Hue is linear. A hue is an angle: half the travel gives half the rotation. Files graded with an earlier version keep their exact look, the panel reads the rotation actually applied and places the slider on it.Index of refraction sits with the surface controls, next to Glossiness and Reflection, and the panel opens folded.Fixed: extended channels kept the previous material’s values on a new selection; right-clicking Glossiness or Reflection could wipe the material’s finish; hue could drift on V-Ray and 3ds Max Physical materials; Reflection did nothing on a Physical material driven by a map; map amounts could only be increased, never reduced; displacement set beyond the track was lost on the first drag; Glossiness read 0 on a material that had a value; ‘Hide maps’ switched itself back on at every re-selection, and Remate no longer changes your viewport display by itself; activation now says whether a key was refused or the store could not be reached.v1.2Displacement stays on the material it belongs to. Moving from one material to another and then touching any slider, even a colour one, could write the previous material’s displacement bounds onto the new one, without a word. A material set to 3 / 5 came back as 0 / 20. The panel also showed the wrong displacement on a multi or sub-object material, reading a slot that carried no map at all.Real-world map size, in one row. Set the size of every bitmap in the material at once, live as you type, visible in the viewport as well as in the render. A padlock keeps width and height in proportion, and a second button recovers the map’s true aspect. Where the maps already share a single scale controller, a Poliigon import for instance, it drives that controller and leaves your setup untouched. Reset restores the originals exactly.Layered and multi materials get a picker. When the selection holds more than one drivable material, a drop down lists them, including stacked layers a face click cannot tell apart. Pick face now lands on the right sub-material even on objects far from the scene origin, and map sizes read in your scene’s own units.v1.1.1MORE PARAMETERS drives the material again. Every extended slider was reporting a value of zero whatever its position, so a channel you moved was written to the bottom of its range instead: clear coat and sheen did nothing, and a value set by hand in the material was pushed back to 0 on the first slider move. On a multi/sub, an extended slider now reaches every leaf, and leaves keep their own value on the channels you do not touch.Displacement tells the truth. The panel rounded its read-out while the material received the raw continuous value, so the two never matched. The value is now quantised to 1/100 and shown with two decimals. And a leaf that had never been graded no longer has its real displacement range overwritten by the default 0 / 1 pair on the first slider move.V-Ray Blend materials are driven at last. Remate was looking for the two slots of the native Max Blend material, which V-Ray does not have, so the selection returned nothing at all.Reported by Rob Rhodes, and covered by two new automated tests.Previously - v1.1MORE PARAMETERS. Every extra channel of the material appears in its own section, discovered from the maps actually plugged in, grouped and labelled. Drop a map into any slot and its channel shows up with a mix slider facing it; remove the map and both go. No fixed list, the panel follows your material.3ds Max Physical Material is now driven too: colour, finish, reflection and bump, so mixed multi/sub materials from imported scenes stop answering "not compatible".The full parameters, one right click away. Right-click "Select in Slate Editor" and the material opens in the Compact Material Editor, already in a slot and active. And the details that count: a second toolbar button "Remate Pick face" that works even before Remate is launched (drag it into your quad menu), the panel tells you what you selected (single material, multi/sub, closed groups read correctly), Gamma and Exposure are findable behind "+ gamma / exposure", scenes graded with any older Remate always come back exactly, and a performance pass keeps heavy multi/sub scenes fluid.Earlier in v1 — v1.0.13: the interface component is now found whatever its file name, so the panel no longer refuses to open with a good component sitting right next to it, and your licence survives a 3ds Max reinstall instead of asking for the key again and using up a seat. v1.0.12: updating now reaches every version of 3ds Max you have, so a copy left behind in another release can no longer push the toolbar button back to an older one (the reason the loading message returned by itself a few days after an update). The installer stops announcing success when it has failed, and activation warns you if the licence cannot be saved instead of asking for your key again next session and using up another seat. v1.0.11: Pick face now reaches materials it used to refuse: objects inside a closed group, and faces carrying a container material (layered car paint, blend, shell) where it now drives the base material underneath. The viewport also keeps showing your colour or texture while Remate drives the material. The toolbar button is rebuilt at every start, so it always opens the panel. Remate also installs as a 3ds Max plugin package, so it keeps loading after a Max version update, when the startup phase is disturbed by another add-on, or even if the user scripts folder is emptied. Runs on 3ds Max 2027 (.NET 10) alongside every release back to 2021.
